宮崎駿在引退記者會上發給媒體的「引退宣言」，以下為節譯：

「我想再工作十年。想持續工作，直到沒辦法從家裡開車到工作的地方。我想，那大概是十年吧。可能更短，要看我能活多久，大概是十年。我很想製作長篇動畫，但是每部作品完成的間隔愈來愈長，真的沒辦法，變成常態了。「起風」與上部作品距離五年之久，接下來是六年、七年……」

「不只是長篇動畫，我還有很多想嘗試的事。一定要做的像是吉卜力美術館的展覽等，問題堆積如山。」「我是自由人了。雖然這麼說，我的日常生活大概不會變，每天還是會走一樣的路。能在禮拜六放假，是我的夢想，能不能成真的，不去試，怎麼會知道呢。」
