歐巴馬並未對是否逕行動武表態

美國總統歐巴馬6日在G-20峰會的記者會上被問到，如果美國國會並未授權政府對敘利亞動武，他是否仍會攻擊敘利亞？歐巴馬對此並未直接答覆；他只表示，將全力說服美國民眾及國會議員同意美國必須對阿塞德政權採取行動。他說，「我之所以會送請國會授權，是因為我不能問心無愧地宣稱阿塞德政權對無辜民眾、婦女及孩童使用化學武器，會對美國造成急迫且直接的威脅。」他說，如果對美國或盟國造成威脅，他將不會與國會商議而逕行發動攻擊。

美國白宮也發表聲明指出，在G20的20個國家中，有11國譴責敘利亞政府在8月21日發動的化武攻擊，並要求國際間做強有力的反應。這些國家包括澳洲、加拿大、法國、義大利、日本、南韓、沙烏地阿拉伯、西班牙、土耳其、英國及美國。
