美官員訪台討論海洋保育議題

美國國務院主管海洋業務副助卿大衛‧波頓與美國國家海洋及大氣總署副助理部長羅素‧史密斯三世今天訪台，將與台灣各界討論海洋議題。

美國在台協會（AIT）今天發布新聞稿，美國國務院海洋與國際環境暨科學事務局副助卿大衛‧波頓（David Balton）與美國國家海洋及大氣總署（NOAA）主管國際漁業的副助理部長羅素‧史密斯三世（RussellSmith III）今天起至25日來台訪問。

AIT表示，波頓和史密斯訪台期間將在國際法學會發表演講，並與台灣官方和民間團體代表討論美台雙邊關切的國際漁業和海洋保育議題。

AIT說明2名資深官員背景，其中波頓自2009年起即擔任海洋暨漁業副助卿，在此之前，他擔任國務院海洋保育處處長長達6年時間，負責協調與擬定與海洋生物資源有關的美國外交政策，並監督美國在相關國際組織的參與。

史密斯在任職於NOAA前，曾在美國貿易代表署服務多年。他在2002年加入美國貿易代表署，擔任美洲自由貿易區辦公室主任，並曾在美國司法部服務以及在律師事務所執業。
