美聯社報導，波蘭國會議長席科斯基5日宣布將於5月10日舉行總統大選，無視選舉日與二次世界大戰紀念日僅隔兩天的考量。依照慣例，二戰紀念日5月9日會在莫斯科舉行，波蘭則於5月8日舉辦儀式。

波蘭此次選舉最受矚目的候選人是波蘭首位變性國會議員安娜‧葛洛茲卡，她宣稱已獲得綠黨支持。在波蘭，候選人得先獲得至少10萬名合格選民簽名連署，才能成為正式候選人。
