在美國，越來越多年青成年人選擇與家人同住，而不買房。

2013年，約有2200萬18至34歲成年人住在家中，較2006年增加4%。

根據房利美公司的一項新的調查顯示，父母親對這些大器晚成子女多表歡迎，68%受訪者樂見他們的成年子女持續與他們同住。

房利美公司首席經濟學家Doug Duncan說，年青成年人不願搬出，有幾項財務上的原因。有人希望結婚前，先累積財富。有人則因薪水太低。亦有人選擇延畢，與家人同住以減低費用。

這項趨勢對房屋市場造成了重大衝擊。分析師說，房市復甦已見受阻，部份原因即在缺少新的購屋需求。

根據國家不動產協會(NAR)統計，5月首次購屋人數佔購屋總人數27%，創新低，歷史平均比例為40%。
