　甫因輕颱「西馬隆」來襲而進行預警性封閉的南迴公路香蘭段，17日夜間十一日時即傳出一輛油灌車從高雄往台東方向前進，卻在途經台九線香蘭段410公里處下坡路段時，疑因機械故障失控，整輛油灌車衝入舊省道後墜落路旁山谷，僅剩車尾後輪卡在路邊，搖搖欲墜令人心驚。

　命大未受傷的江姓駕駛（50歲）爬上路面後，趕忙打電話求救，並明顯因受到驚嚇不願多言。警方初步調查江某並無飲酒駕車問題，已協助找來吊車將油灌車吊起；「還好油灌車是空的，不然鐵定墜落山谷下的太平洋畔。」吊車業者表示整起作業起碼要三到四小時才能讓油灌車脫困。
