電動車時代正在來臨，德國豪華車廠寶馬汽車公司(BMW)不願缺席這場盛宴，29日公開展示首部量產電動車BMW i3 ，已實際行動宣告加入戰局。

據華爾街日報報導，BMW i3預計在2014年第二季開賣，抵稅與其它政府補貼前售價為4.135萬美元，折抵台幣約為122萬。若加裝小型汽油引擎增加續航力，售價則加增至4.5萬美元。

BMW執行長Norbert Reithofer表示，打造一輛像BMW i3的電動車，是以5年、10年，甚至是20年的願景作考量，有鑑於美國、歐盟、中國大陸乃至全世界對炭排放的法規要求，BMW i3將是大勢所趨。

CNET.com報導，BMW i3巡航半徑約為80至100英里之間，儘管美國一般家庭每日交通距離不超出此範圍，但畢竟巡航半徑仍受限制，因此電動車推銷初期將有一定的難度。此外，BMW i3五門休旅車的造型，與BMW豪華車形象也似乎不太相符。
