大陸首個現代有軌電車專案，總長約60公里的瀋陽渾南新區現代有軌電車6日成網運行。
根據新華網報導，這是大陸規劃的數百條現代有軌電車線路成網運行的第一條。北京、上海、天津、廣東、浙江、江蘇、福建、山東、安徽、貴州、遼寧、河北、河南、海南等省市目前已規劃了超過4000公里的現代有軌電車網。
瀋陽渾南現代由大陸北車以BT(建設－移交)模式建設。整個路網由4條線路組成，線路總長約60公里，共設車站67個。
北車建設工程有限責任公司副總經理謝傳軍說，瀋陽渾南新區現代有軌電車以BT(建設－移交)模式承建，吸納了大陸國內外一流的合作商，集合了各方面的優質資源，共同打造了瀋陽渾南新區現代有軌電車示範線。此外，現代有軌電車投資少、工期短、運營成本低、環保舒適美觀和設計彈性靈活、適應性強的特點，使其在大中小城市都能找到用武之地。
相對於地鐵，現代有軌電車線路造價僅為地鐵的1／8－1／4，建設周期是地鐵的1／4－1／2；其載客量又遠高於快速公交，車輛壽命更是其3倍，且沒有尾氣排放。目前，現代有軌電車在歐盟27國運營里程就超過9000公里。
